The Island Below

Viewed straight down, a riverside gathering becomes a field of curved shoreline, long shadows, bright parasols, boats, and small human exchanges.

The composition looks directly down onto a sunlit island bordered by deep blue water. Figures sit, stroll, fish, read, and gather beneath orange, blue, and black parasols while rowboats and sailboats trace the shore. Rounded tree canopies and long diagonal shadows divide the yellow-green lawn into repeating shapes. Built from small flecks and strokes of color, the scene rewards both distant viewing and close inspection. By removing the horizon, The Island Below turns an afternoon of leisure into a pattern of movement, color, and space.
